About Smokey

Smokey is a truly loyal and affectionate companion who thrives on being with his people. Having spent three months in a foster home, he has proven to be a quick learner, mastering house training and kennel independence within days. He enjoys curling up on the couch but also appreciates a cool spot on the floor. Smokey has made great strides with his separation anxiety, responding well to a calm departure routine. He loves his toys, enjoys outdoor time, and his comical bursts of excitement are sure to bring a smile to your face. While generally quiet, he is protective and will alert you to anything amiss, but he understands the 'it's alright' command to settle.

As a German Shepherd Dog, Smokey embodies many of the breed's finest traits: intelligence, loyalty, and a protective instinct. He is a smart boy, already knowing commands like sit, heel, lay down, and 'where's your ball', and is excelling at 'stay'. His breed typically requires moderate grooming to maintain their double coat and experiences seasonal shedding. German Shepherds are known for their moderate to high energy levels and require consistent exercise and mental stimulation to be happy and well-adjusted. Smokey walks wonderfully on a leash and enjoys off-leash exploration in secure areas, making him an excellent partner for adventures.

Smokey is looking for a calm, loving home, ideally a small family, where he can be an integral part of daily life. He has shown to be good with young children, elderly individuals, and other dogs. While his reaction to cats is unknown, his foster reports he has overcome initial fears of vacuums and power tools, suggesting he can adapt to new experiences with patience. He would not thrive in a chaotic or loud environment. Smokey promises to be a devoted and entertaining addition, offering endless affection and companionship to the right family.
